CHARTING OUR COURSE
Sunday (1/12), gather with your church family as we continue the second of our three-week study in the Apostle Paul’s letter to Titus (2:1-15).
Paul’s letter was meant to encourage Titus and instruct him on how to make the church a vibrant, healthy, and spiritually mature body of believers.
First, Paul told him that his teaching was to be sound in doctrine, promoting spiritual health and a lifestyle separate from the world and dedicated to Christ for His good pleasure.
Second, Paul provided Titus with explicit and detailed instructions for each group represented in the church that met all over the Island. Each of the men and women was called, gifted, and commanded to be a part of discipling those who had recently come to faith in Christ.
Teaching should come from the Elders, whom Titus should appoint to lead the churches and those maturing in the faith. Men and women who sat under the anointed teaching of God’s Word imitated the lifestyle of those who taught them and set out to disciple others, beginning with those in their household and including those in their church.
Discipleship was needed because many people were raised in a culture celebrating immorality. Teaching was utilized to help them live a life for the Lord Jesus Christ that would reflect His glory.
Third, Paul wrote that a lifestyle set apart for the Lord would also inspire them to live holy lives in light of the Lord’s imminent return, first for the church before the seven-year Tribulation and then with the church after the Tribulation at the Second Coming. This endeavor would give them hope that provides love for God, His Word, and each other and a love of service.
I pray that the Holy Spirit will equip and encourage us to follow Titus's instructions. This will help us be a healthy, growing, and functional New Testament body of believers who minister for the Lord’s good pleasure and are valuable instruments in His hands as we await His return.
There are several worship opportunities: on-campus (10:00 a.m.), drive-in church (92.1fm), and online (Facebook and YouTube: Calvary Inverness).
