Standing In The Gap

STANDING IN THE GAP

Tonight (Wednesday,12/11, 7:00 p.m.), gather with your Calvary Chapel family in the Holy Grounds Cafe or on our website (www.calvaryinv.com), Facebook, and YouTube (Calvary Inverness) as we continue our study of Ezekiel (21-24).

Ezekiel, a young priest taken captive by the Babylonians, had been challenging his fellow captives and those left in Jerusalem to cease disobeying and rebelling against God. But his prophetic messages were falling on deaf ears.

Now, since Ezekiel's prophecies were being ignored and mocked, God brought His word to the prophet to state emphatically that the sword of Nebuchadnezzar, which had invaded Jerusalem successfully two previous times, would come again, and finally dethrone the king, destroy the city and the Temple.

All this occurred because God had sought a man with the character and a heart for Him and His people to stand in the gap. It wasn't His desire to destroy His chosen people. It happened because He didn't find anyone worthy to make atonement for the people.
Prophets like Ezekiel, Daniel, and Jeremiah were good, righteous men who prophesied the Word of God. They were faithful in delivering what they had been told without watering down what they had been told. But they were also unworthy to make atonement for Israel's sins.

All they could do was continue warning them to turn from their sins and turn to God, and He would save their life even though the city would be destroyed.

The prophets of the Old Testament are an example for us today. God is still looking for faithful people who will stand up and cry out to those heading to the slaughter, saying that One has stood in the gap for them. His name is Jesus, and He is the only One who is worthy and can and will cleanse anyone who turns to Him in faith from their sins.

Please pray that this journey through the Word of God will be received by open hearts that long to grow in Jesus' grace and Knowledge. Moreover, He will do deep and abiding work in and through us for a world desperately needing a Savior.
In His Strong Love,
Pastor
