Pinecraft is the Amish/Mennonite snowbird community of Sarasota who escape the harsh weather of Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and other northern states. You will know you are in Pinecraft when you come upon large populations of men and women dressed in traditional plain clothing and prayer coverings. They will often be riding large-wheeled adult tricycles which are a replacement of their traditional horse and buggies. In Pinecraft you can enjoy shops including locally made gifts, jams and high quality wood products (these can be taken home on or under the motorcoach).
We will be joined by local historian J.B. Miller, whose parents were raised in the Old Amish Order, but later joined a conservative Mennonite congregation. As a child he spoke both English and Pennsylvania Dutch, which is a dialect still spoken by Amish today. J.B. Miller grew up in Pinecraft.
