Sound The Alarm
SOUND THE ALARM
Tonight (Wednesday, 6/18, 7:00 pm), join your Calvary Chapel family at the Holy Grounds Café or online through our website (www.calvaryinv.com
), Facebook, and YouTube (Calvary Inverness) as we continue our Bible study in the book of Hosea (7:1-9:17).
In the previous three chapters, Hosea, after calling Israel out for their sin against God, outlines the courtroom proceedings. In the indictment, God charges His people with harlotry, a sin deserving of and requiring death. He methodically presents the case against them. Each chapter and verse reveals a series of charges regarding the sins Israel committed against Him.
In chapters seven through nine, God calls Hosea to raise the alarm about His imminent judgment. Israel had forsaken their part of the covenant that God established with them. At the same time, they also violated their social covenant, which nations create to ensure law and order. This breach of the covenant affected the marriages of the priests and civic leaders.
The reason for the
alarm? Because after hearing the charges against them, Israel carried on as if nothing had changed. The religious and civic leaders continued to profess that they were a nation following God, yet they persisted in their adulterous ways.
Unbeknownst to Israel’s leaders was the judgment that God would use: the Assyrians. They were a vicious people who took no prisoners. When they invaded a nation, they annihilated everything in their path. So, while Israel continued in its self-deception, the Assyrians were making their plans to invade.
It is the will of God that none should perish. He desires that all would repent of their evil ways and be saved. Therefore, right until the last moment, God urged Hosea to continue his mission, even though many turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to his prophecies.
Much like Israel, many in our nation are doing the same. The Bible is clear about the consequences for those who reject God’s Son. Many of these individuals have either been raised in a church or had a Christian family member or friend share the gospel with them, or both. Yet, they shrug their shoulders and bristle at the idea of God’s judgment.
The church must continue the ministry of Hosea. We are called to sound the alarm. No matter how many refuse to listen or how antagonistic they may be, we must persist in sharing the love of God that has been revealed through the person of Jesus Christ.
I eagerly look forward to our time together. Please pray for a renewed outpouring of the Holy Spirit for the whole Calvary Chapel family.

Pastor
