Go Prophesy To My People

GO, PROPHESY TO MY PEOPLE

Tonight, Wednesday, 8/13, at 7:00 pm, join your Calvary Chapel family at the Holy Grounds Café or online through our website (www.calvaryinv.com), Facebook, and YouTube (Calvary Inverness) as we continue our Bible study in the book of Amos (7:1-9:15).

Amos faithfully proclaimed God’s Word to Israel without holding back. He did this with compassion and anointing from the Lord to fulfill the challenging task he was given.
He was nearing the end of his ministry. All that remained was to warn backsliding Israel to return to God before it was too late. In the passage (chapters 7-9), Amos shares five different visions God gave to provoke a change of heart in the people.

How did Israel respond? The final prophecy didn’t cause them to hesitate or motivate them to return to the Lord. Instead, they attacked him through Amaziah, the priest, questioning his character. Usually, when confronted with sin, people ignore what has been said and try to discredit the messenger.

Amos was told loudly and clearly that he was unqualified; he was a nobody from nowhere, and he wrongly believed that what he said was from God. Therefore, he needed to stop his fantasy of speaking on behalf of God and go home to tend his sheep and fig trees.
The truth is, man may not accept you for many reasons, but that doesn't qualify or disqualify you from serving the Lord. Man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart. And, what is clear from this little-known prophet is that he had a heart for God.
Based on his actions—leaving his comfortable life behind to prophesy to the kings of Northern Israel and their people, who could have cared less about what Amos had to say—he was a man of great faith, not in himself but in the God of heaven.

Today, the church of the Lord Jesus Christ has been given a similar mission. We are to share what has been revealed in the Bible about man, his sin, his need for a Savior, and his future destiny—heaven or hell—and urge everyone willing to listen to turn from their sin and turn to God in faith. When they do, they will discover that He will forgive them, cleanse them, fill them with His Spirit, and adopt them into His family.
I eagerly anticipate our time together. Please pray for a renewed outpouring of the Holy Spirit for the entire Calvary Chapel family.
In His Strong Love,
Pastor
