Days of Elijah

DAYS OF ELIJAH

Tonight (Wednesday 08/17, 7:00 pm), gather with your Calvary Chapel family in the Holy Ground Cafe’ or on our website (www.calvaryinv.com), Facebook, and Youtube (Calvary Inverness) as we continue with our three-year journey through the Bible (1 Kings 17-19).

Few people in the sixty-six books of the Bible are like Elijah. He appears on the scene out of nowhere. His first assignment was to go and tell King Ahab that God would bring a three-year drought due to him forsaking the commandments of God.

Like Moses, his ministry was filled with memorable moments, unbelievable miracles, speaking truth to power, and an undeterred sense of standing for what was right. Like Jeremiah, he suffered severe persecution and loneliness, and, like every other person, he was an ordinary man who experienced moments of sadness, anxiety, doubt, weakness, and depression.

James, the brother of Jesus, wrote about the secret to Elijah’s ministry that produced tremendous results despite the obstacles and the ability to touch the lives of many who had been left behind by society. He said, “Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit” (James 5:17-18). The key to Elijah’s effective ministry was his prayer life. He had absolute trust in God and His Word. He prayed with faith and persistence, which gave him the fortitude to stand for righteousness no matter the circumstances.

Please pray that this three-year journey, through the Word of God, will be received by open hearts that long to grow in the Grace and Knowledge of Jesus. And that He would do a deep and practical Work in and through us for a world in desperate need of a Savior.
In His Strong Love,
Pastor
