A Sure Foundation
A SURE FOUNDATION
Sunday (4/23), gather with your church family as we continue our series in the gospel according to Matthew (7:13-29). It is the first of four gospels that chronicle the birth, life, ministry, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Jesus concludes the “Sermon on the Mount” with a challenging exhortation. He tells those disciples who had followed Him up the mountain that they must be aware of two types of decisions they must constantly make. One leads to everlasting life and the other to destruction.
He begins by saying there are two ways. One way is narrow, and the other broad. Next, Jesus says there are two types of trees. One is good and bears good fruit; the other is bad and useless. Third, there are two types of professions of faith. One profession is matched by a lifestyle consistent with their confession; the other is nothing but words without meaning. And finally, Jesus says there are two ways to build a house. One way is on the rock, and the other is on the sand. Both will experience storms, but only one will endure.
The Sermon on the Mount is a reminder that the Christian life is difficult and fraught with many snares and dangers. Their enemy is a fierce opponent who never stops attacking, deceiving, or intimidating. Therefore, Jesus charges His followers always to remain alert and watchful. However, there are not to be fearful; instead, they are to be confident in the truth that “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” (1 Jn 4:4).
I look forward to our time together. Please pray for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the entire Calvary Chapel family.
There are several opportunities for worship. On-campus (10:00 am), drive-in church (92.1fm), and online (Facebook, YouTube: Calvary Inverness); (website: calvaryinv.com
