When God Roars
WHEN GOD ROARS
Sunday (12/04), we continue the series in the book of Hosea (11:1-11). For ten chapters, we have followed the prophet Hosea fulfilling God’s call on his life while also dealing with unimaginable pain in his marriage.
The book takes a dramatic, thematic change in the last four chapters (11-14). Whereas the first ten chapters detailed the broken heart of a loving God and the remorse He had due to having no alternative but to have His prophet pronounce judgment, He anoints Hosea to announce in beautiful detail the lengths that He will go to reconcile His unfaithful, undeserving, unloving people to Himself.
In chapter eleven, the prophet Hosea begins his announcement of God’s love by reminding Israel of His faithfulness, long-suffering, compassion, and mercy that He has shown them from the beginning of their becoming a nation. And, even though Israel has continually broken fellowship with Him due to their continual backsliding and worship of pagan deities, He is willing to forgive and restore.
God is not like man. He is holy, just, righteous, and glorious. He cannot nor will He ever gloss over man’s sin. His character binds him to deal with the sin of rebellious man. Yet, at the same time, He takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked. Instead, God desires that all men come unto repentance, so they will never know the terror of being separated from His presence for eternity. So, He anoints His prophet to attempt to reach them by announcing what He is able and willing to do if they turn back to Him.
Hosea’s life is a poignant portrait of life for the church today. We have been called to share with people what God has done for us amid the drama of living in a culture that is increasingly more and more Anti-Christian, which translates as Anti-God and His Christ. And, just as the Holy Spirit anointed Hosea to endure the hardships and remain faithful to God, He promises to do the same for the church.
I look forward to our time together. Please pray for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the entire Calvary Chapel family.
There are several opportunities for worship. On-campus (10:00 am), drive-in church (92.1fm), and online (Facebook and YouTube: Calvary Inverness)
