David\'s Last Words
DAVID’S LAST WORDS
Tonight (Wednesday 07/13, 7:00 pm), gather with your Calvary Chapel family in the Holy Ground Cafe’ or on our website (www.calvaryinv.com), Facebook, and Youtube (Calvary Inverness) as we continue with our three-year journey through the Bible (2 Samuel 19-24).
King David had come to the end of his reign and life. Throughout his ups and downs, acts of courage and faith, and times of backslidings, God remained faithful to His Word. He had made an everlasting covenant with David, and He made sure to fulfill every word of it.
After surviving an insurrection by his son Absalom, David returned to Jerusalem. Knowing his time on earth was coming to a close, he collected his thoughts and began the task of putting his words into writing. He reflected on all the numerous times he almost died. Between the invading armies and hostile nations, conspiracies of those who lusted for the power of his throne, and the consequences of his disastrous decisions, David knew the only reason he survived all of it was due to the grace of God.
He had penned many Psalms of worship. He wrote many of them expressing his thoughts and feelings when going through circumstances that tried his soul. Now he would write his final hymn giving thanks to God for being faithful to His Word.
“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, My stronghold and my refuge; My Savior, You save me from violence. I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies. “The Lord lives! Blessed be my Rock! Let God be exalted, The Rock of my salvation! It is God who avenges me, And subdues the peoples under me; He delivers me from my enemies. You also lift me up above those who rise against me; You have delivered me from the violent man. Therefore I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the Gentiles, And sing praises to Your name. “He is the tower of salvation to His king, And shows mercy to His anointed, To David and his descendants forevermore” (2 Samuel 22:1-51).
Please pray that this three-year journey, through the Word of God, will be received by open hearts that long to grow in the Grace and Knowledge of Jesus. And that He would do a deep and practical Work in and through us for a world in desperate need of a Savior.
