Steadfast In The Faith

Join your Calvary Chapel family on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the main sanctuary or online via our website (www.calvaryinv.com

), Facebook, or YouTube (Calvary Inverness). We will gather to exalt Jesus, encourage one another in love, and prepare to share the gospel as we conclude our detailed study of 1 Peter (5:8-14).

Peter, Silas, and Mark came to know Jesus Christ as their Savior through faith in His sacrifice. Peter was among the first disciples chosen by Jesus. Silas accompanied Paul on missionary journeys to preach and serve.

Mark, Barnabas's cousin, joined Paul on his first missionary journey. He met Peter after an angel freed Peter from a Roman jail. Afterward, Peter visited his mother Mary's house to thank the believers who had prayed all night for his release.

Currently, the three men living in Babylon (modern-day Iraq) worked together to write this letter to the church scattered across the Eastern Roman provinces. The church primarily consisted of Jews who had converted to their Messiah and of Gentiles influenced by Christ through their Jewish acquaintances.

Guided by the Holy Spirit, Peter dictated to Silas, while Mark meticulously recorded Peter's account of Jesus' ministry, forming the basis of the Gospel of Mark. Peter's first of two letters aimed to encourage, edify, equip, empower, and strengthen believers in the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Throughout the letter, the apostle Peter emphasized keeping the church's focus on Jesus, the author and finisher of their faith, especially amid persecution. This would help believers remain grounded enough to endure spiritual battles and the hostility of a corrupt, sinful culture that pressured them to abandon their faith.

Peter, Silas, and Mark gave the early church an example of men who surrendered their entire lives to following and living for the Lord Jesus Christ. They had devoted themselves to the ministry God had called them to, sacrificing much, including their lives, to serve, teach, warn, encourage, and establish believers.

After the letter was delivered to the churches for reading and study in their worship of God, the three men each continued to serve the Lord by ministering to the church (according to church tradition, Peter returned to Rome along with Mark, who authored the gospel bearing his name, and Silas returned to Greece, where he became the bishop of the church in Corinth) until he was martyred.

Their lives continue to testify to God's unconditional, eternal love, Christ's transformative power, and the Holy Spirit's enabling presence—freely given to everyone who repents, trusts in Christ for forgiveness, and is regenerated by the Holy Spirit to serve as a witness.
In His Strong Love,
Pastor
