Life under Rome was harsh, particularly for Jews and Christians. The reason was clear: Satan despises God, His chosen people, and everyone who follows Christ.
Given the severe persecution the church endured, Peter emphasizes that God is constantly watching over His people and is never absent. The believers are not alone, so there's no reason to fear, be troubled, or worry. They can embrace peace through His love.
Peter points to the example of Jesus Christ, who willingly faced persecution and suffering, even death, as Satan relentlessly tried through wicked men to prevent Him from completing His mission.
The Apostle's goal was straightforward. Those who endure suffering for Christ face persecution, ridicule, and mockery. However, they gain confidence through the Holy Spirit's presence, knowing that God—who they belong to—is superior to anyone in both the spiritual and natural realms.
Inspired by Christ's example, believers can grasp and cling to a peace that nothing in heaven or earth can sever them from God's love, found through Jesus Christ, who will never leave or forsake them in their times of need.
Experiencing God's peace comes from understanding His love for His people, demonstrated by sending His Son to atone for them and reconcile them to Him by paying for their sins through the shedding of His blood.
Therefore, when someone repents of their sins and puts their faith in Jesus Christ, He lovingly cares for them, providing the strength needed to withstand any opposition to their faith.
Their perseverance is rooted in the hope ignited by Peter's reassurances of what they have in Christ. This was never something they needed to earn. Rather, caring for, safeguarding, and guiding His people are gifts from His unconditional, boundless, and everlasting love.
