A Call to Godly Living

A CALL TO GODLY LIVING

Join your Calvary Chapel family on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the main sanctuary or online via our website (www.calvaryinv.com), Facebook, or YouTube (Calvary Inverness). We will gather to exalt Jesus, encourage one another in love, and prepare to share the gospel as we continue our detailed study of 1 Peter (3:8-12).

For Christians under Caesar's rule, suffering was a daily reality. They faced property confiscation, persecution, threats of imprisonment, and an ongoing fear of death. None of these hardships were justified, as they had committed no crime. Their only offense was their unwavering faith in Jesus Christ.

Peter was deeply aware of what Christians had to suffer. From the moment Jesus called him and his brother Andrew to leave everything behind and follow Him, He promised to make them fishers of men.

Initially, life was an amazing journey, witnessing Jesus teach, perform miracles, heal the sick, open the eyes of the blind and the ears of the deaf, loosen the tongues of the mute, free those possessed by demons, and feed five thousand men, along with women and children, with just five loaves and two fish.

Each day, the crowds grew larger as more people came to hear and watch Jesus minister. What started with dozens soon expanded to hundreds, and eventually to thousands. The atmosphere was exhilarating, as if Heaven had descended onto earth.
However, underneath, there was a growing hatred for Jesus and His teachings. Among the crowds, men sent from Jerusalem aimed to discredit Him using lies, manipulation, and deceit.

Over time, it became clear that, despite their efforts, nothing worked. His influence and popularity kept increasing. If this trend continued, they would lose everything they valued in life. Therefore, it was concluded that He must be killed, and His disciples' fate would be sealed as well.

Eventually, Jesus was crucified, and His enemies believed it was the end. However, three days later, His Father resurrected Him, ensuring He would never die again. He appeared first to His disciples, then to over five hundred people, and later to Peter. This moment was deeply etched in his soul for the rest of his life.

The memory shifted from his mind to the instrument he used to write his letter to fellow Christians. He reflected on the qualities of those who were despised, pursued, persecuted, and executed.

He wrote to them that despite their suffering in this life, they were not to be consumed by hate or to seek revenge, because their inheritance in Heaven awaited them, where they would dwell forever with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
In His Strong Love,
Pastor
