Jesus and the Second Coming
JESUS & THE SECOND COMING

We will continue our journey through the New Testament in the Gospel of Mark (13:14-37).
The Second Coming. The Second Advent. The Glorious Appearing. All three are synonyms for Jesus Christ's return to fulfill the prophecy of His reign in Jerusalem, enthroned on David's throne, ruling over the world for a thousand years.
The path to His return began the moment He ascended to the right hand of God as His disciples stood on the Mount of Olives watching Him disappear in the clouds. Luke records the astonishment of Jesus' men.
"And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, 'Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven" (Acts 1:10-11).
Jesus' last instructions to His disciples were clear. They were to return to Jerusalem and wait for the Comforter, that is, the Holy Spirit, to clothe them in power. This was necessary for the task that had been given to them: to go and preach the gospel to all the world and to make disciples of all those who come to Christ in faith.
The mandate given to the disciples wasn't for them alone. Today, the church, acting as ambassadors of the Lord Jesus Christ, is called to continue proclaiming the glorious gospel of Jesus. It is good news for repentant sinners and a warning to those who ignore its message.
It is also important to note that the signs in the gospels all point to the Second Coming. The rapture of the church comes before that event, so it stands to reason that if we are seeing the signs of His Second Advent, we must be much closer to Him coming for His bride to take us to the Father's House before His wrath is poured out upon a Christ-rejecting world.
I'm excited to continue this journey with you through the twenty-seven books of the New Testament, trusting that none of us will remain unchanged as we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Please pray for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the entire Calvary Chapel family.
