David Becomes King

DAVID BECOMES KING

Tonight (Wednesday 06/22, 7:00 pm), gather with your Calvary Chapel family in the Holy Ground Cafe’ or on our website (www.calvaryinv.com), Facebook, and Youtube (Calvary Inverness) as we continue through our three-year journey through the Bible by beginning the book of 2 Samuel (1-6).
The book begins with David mourning the death of King Saul and Jonathan.  This was a big blow to David.  He loved both men with his whole heart.  Even though Saul had considered David to be his enemy, David did not reciprocate. It did not matter that Saul spent his last years on earth pursuing David to destroy him.  Yet, David lived out this Bible verse written many years later, “above all things have fervent love for one another, for love will cover a multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4:8).

Afterward, David ascended to the throne of Israel. First, he ruled over the tribe of Judah for seven years, and then all of Israel for thirty-three years. God's word concerning David came to pass to the most minute detail. In his letter to the Romans, Paul wrote, “for whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope” (Rom. 15:4). God fulfilling His promises to David gives the believer confidence that those things that God has spoken concerning their life will also come to pass.

Even though David ascended to the throne of Israel does not mean that everything that followed was easy or peaceful. Like the life of the believer today, David’s life had conflict, battles, intrigue, sorrow, weaknesses, betrayal, victories, and times of rejoicing. Yet, through it all, God remained faithful to David and the promises He had given.  And, God remains faithful to His people today. “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Phil. 1:6).

Please pray that this three-year journey, through the Word of God, will be received by open hearts that long to grow in the Grace and Knowledge of Jesus. And that He would do a deep and practical Work in and through us for a world in desperate need of a Savior.
In His Strong Love,
Pastor
