The Struggles of Job
THE STRUGGLES OF JOB
Tonight (Wednesday, 3/29, 7:00 pm), gather with your Calvary Chapel family in the Holy Grounds Cafe' or on our website (www.calvaryinv.com
), Facebook, and Youtube (Calvary Inverness) as we continue with our three-year journey through the Bible by beginning the book of Job (8:1-14:22).
The book of Job takes place during the patriarchal age, meaning sometime during the lives of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The book's main character, Job, is the wealthiest and wisest man living in Edom (modern-day Jordan). Sometime during Job's life, Satan appeared in the Throne room before God. A conversation was initiated that would turn Job's life upside down to the point of him almost being destroyed. The description of what happened to him is hard to describe.
In the briefest moments, he lost everything: his children, possessions, livelihood, and health. The disaster was so sudden that Job didn't have time to process the news before another messenger came to tell him what they had just witnessed. When all was said and done, Job was sitting on a burning heap of garbage (2:8), scraping himself to ease the pain of the oozing sores from the boils that covered him from head to toe and lamenting that he was ever born.
It is during those times of tragedy and suffering that significant questions arise. God, why did You allow this to happen? God, where are You? God, are you aware of what is happening? God, have I done something too wrong You? And, like Job, instead of receiving an answer to your questions, all you hear is complete silence.
What Job learned about God and the purpose of why he suffered for a prolonged period is the subject of the book.
Please pray that this three-year journey through the Word of God will be received by open hearts that long to grow in the Grace and Knowledge of Jesus. Moreover, He would do deep and abiding work in and through us for a world in desperate need of a Savior.
In His Strong Love,
Pastor
