Love In Deed and Truth

LOVE IN DEED & TRUTH

Join your Calvary Chapel family today (Sunday, July 27, at 10:00 a.m.) in the main sanctuary or online through our website (www.calvaryinv.com), Facebook, and YouTube (Calvary Inverness) as we continue our series on the book of 1 John (3:16-24).

John has spent the first two-thirds of the third chapter describing God’s love for them and their new identity in Christ. It is a love that lifted them from the depths of sin and depravity, cleansed them, and positioned them in heavenly places as co-heirs with Christ.

He explained that those who are born again cannot stay in a continuous pattern of sin or harbor hate or indifference toward their brothers and sisters in Christ. It is a love that comes from the depths of their soul and overflows into action.

John was illustrating a contrast between the church, which has been born of God, adopted into His family, and enjoys intimate fellowship with Him, and a world that cares for no one—those who turn a blind eye and deaf ear to the cries of the destitute, holding grudges and petty vendettas throughout their narcissistic and material-obsessed lives.

God called John to pastor the church in Ephesus, a center of magic where people were enslaved by the whims of demonic deities that ruled the city and its inhabitants.

Part of his pastoral calling was to encourage and equip the church to live amid a world enchanted by spiritual principalities and powers, to love God with their whole heart, mind, soul, and strength, and to put hands and feet to their love for the church family. In doing so, they would strengthen their bond with one another and serve as a loud and clear testimony of the power of God’s love.

May our church family realize that the same purpose God had for the early church still applies today. May our love for Him, His Word, and each other, along with our desire to serve, continue to grow until His return.

In His Strong Love,
Pastor
