Walking In The LIght
WALKING IN THE LIGHT
Join your Calvary Chapel family tomorrow (Sunday, 5/25, 10:00 a.m.) in the main sanctuary or on our website (www.calvaryinv.com
), Facebook, and YouTube (Calvary Inverness) as we continue our brand new series from the book of 1 John (1:5-10).
John wrote his letter to refute the lies of those who had infiltrated the church. Some of them denied the humanity of Jesus, believing He was one of many apparitions sent by God. Others rejected the deity of Jesus. They accepted that He performed miracles, healings, and deliverances, but stopped short of believing He was the only begotten Son of God.
John emphatically stated that none of those false teachers knew what they were saying because, unlike him, they had not been present at the beginning of Jesus’ ministry. John had seen, heard, and touched the living Savior. He was there at the beginning and the moment after His resurrection when He ascended to heaven, promising to return.
Now, John addresses two other heresies that have gained a foothold in the church. First, some taught that grace allows one to live however one wants without fear of judgment.
Second, the other extreme was the belief that those who taught the lie of perfectionism stated that those who trusted Christ for forgiveness had their sin removed and that it was impossible for them to ever sin again.
Therefore, inspired by the Holy Spirit, John writes about how the church can avoid the two heresies by walking in the truth revealed by Scripture regarding God, the sin nature, acts of sin, repentance, confession, and forgiveness. By doing so, Christians can sustain and flourish in their relationship with the One who made victorious living possible.
In His Strong Love,
Pastor
