Jesus And Kingdom Greatness

JESUS & KINGDOM GREATNESS

Sunday (06/03), gather with your church family as we turn our attention to Matthew’s Gospel (20:17-28).

Jesus was traveling to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover. He and His disciples were among the many pilgrims who made the annual journey to commemorate God delivering them from the bondage of Egypt.

While the disciples were talking, laughing, and singing with the others walking with them, Jesus pulled them aside and told them that when they arrived, He would be betrayed, arrested, mocked, scrounged, and crucified. But they need not worry because, on the third day, He would be raised to life.

It must have been a sad moment when the twelve heard their Teacher and Mentor say those things, but their reaction was not what one would expect. For, right after saying what He did, James’s and John’s Mother, who was His aunt, approached and asked when He sat on the throne in the regeneration, would He grant that her two sons sit on His right and His left.

Her request was at the most inopportune time and in poor taste. If that wasn’t bad enough, the other ten disciples were mad at James and John. They were not offended for Jesus’ sake but rather because each had been thinking about their position in His kingdom.

Jesus responded with a soft and firm resolve that their ambitions and lives should differ from those still in the world. They should willingly lay those things aside and strive to live a life of service to Him and those He loves.

I look forward to our time together. Please pray for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the entire Calvary Chapel family.

There are several opportunities for worship: on-campus (10:00 a.m.), drive-in church (92.1fm), and online (Facebook and YouTube: Calvary Inverness).

IN HIS STRONG LOVE,
