HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, Calvary Chapel Inverness!!

Sunday (06/30), gather with your church family as we celebrate nineteen years of ministry as a church and turn our attention to Matthew’s Gospel (21:12-17).

When the church began in 2005, a mission statement was composed to communicate to those who called this place their spiritual home’s purpose. It said that as a church family, we would “work together to bring people into an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.”

Looking back, two things are evident. God has been faithful to His Word and our church. And we are still dedicated to the mission set forth nineteen years ago.

In the passage before us, Jesus had entered the Temple in Jerusalem and immediately removed all those who had gathered not to worship God but to take advantage of the worshippers. By doing so, Jesus clarified what He did not approve of when a worship service was conducted.

Second, Jesus explained to His disciples and those who had come to the city to commemorate Passover what proper worship looks and sounds like.

This means His house should be a place for all people to be able without distraction, to meet with God in prayer, find help when in physical, emotional, or spiritual need, a place where young people can know God and the plan He has for their lives, and a place where people can with one voice praise the One who has made the promise of everlasting life a reality.

Those in attendance the day Jesus entered Jerusalem were flushed with expectation. They believed that Jesus was the promised Messiah who would rid their beloved nation of Roman tyranny and set up a theocratic government. Unfortunately, many of them had misunderstood Jesus’ purpose that day.

This was the result of their leaders' failing to fulfill their responsibilities as shepherds. Instead of feeding them with the Word of God, they spent time elevating their religious tradition over what the prophets had said.

fail to give our whole selves, as we have the last nineteen years, to God’s counsel from Genesis to Revelation. By doing so and with the help of the Holy Spirit, we shall continue to be a place where people “Love God, Love His Word, Love Each Other, and Love to Serve.”
