A Divided Nation

A DIVIDED NATION

Tonight (Wednesday 08/10, 7:00 pm), gather with your Calvary Chapel family in the Holy Ground Cafe’ or on our website (www.calvaryinv.com), Facebook, and Youtube (Calvary Inverness) as we continue with our three-year journey through the Bible (1 Kings 11-16).

King Solomon was at the peak of his power. His reign had been prosperous, and Israel was a peace with the surrounding nations. Then inexplicably, Solomon abandoned his faith. His falling away began not suddenly but gradually. First, he disobeyed God by marrying a woman for political reasons. Though it may have been beneficial concerning geopolitics, it would end up costing Solomon his relationship with God.

The chapters that follow record the fallout of Solomon’s foolish choices that would cost him all the progress he made as King. After his death, his firstborn son would show himself to be an incompetent and weak leader. The nation would divide and spiral into a civil war lasting hundreds of years.

Solomon’s life is a reminder and warning of how important it is for the follower of Christ to guard their relationship with Him. Solomon had come to understand this when writing to his son Rehoboam: "Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. Put away from you a deceitful mouth, And put perverse lips far from you. Let your eyes look straight ahead, And your eyelids look right before you. Ponder the path of your feet, And let all your ways be established. Do not turn to the right or the left; Remove your foot from evil” (Prov. 4:23–27).

Please pray that this three-year journey, through the Word of God, will be received by open hearts that long to grow in the Grace and Knowledge of Jesus. And that He would do a deep and practical Work in and through us for a world in desperate need of a Savior.
In His Strong Love,
Pastor
