During the service, we will read, study, and embody Apostle Peter's instructions to the persecuted church scattered throughout the Roman Empire (1 Peter 2:11-17).

Peter explained to the church that God's salvation freed them from sin's tyranny and slavery, enabling them to praise Him. Their shift from sinner to saint served as a testament to God's grace and mercy to those around them.

He urged them to recall their calling, uphold their conduct, obey the laws of their king and governors for the Lord's sake, and practice true freedom. In doing so, they would fulfill God's perfect will, silence their persecutors, and help bring many to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

The ability to follow Peter's instructions comes from the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit. He who dwells in believers would come upon them, enabling them to live lives that reflect God's righteousness, minister to one another with His Spirit's gifts, and defend and proclaim the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ.

Today, as Christians and Americans, we can look to the saints and patriots of both the church and our nation's history. Like many before us, we are called by God to share the gospel, embody Christ's righteousness, live as good citizens and patriots, and do all for God's glory.

God Bless America,
Pastor

For example, Pharaoh tried to eliminate a Jewish deliverer by ordering the death of all male babies under two, and Herod issued a similar decree when Magi arrived from the East searching for the King of the Jews.

Persecution appeared to grow more severe after Jesus' resurrection, as His followers' numbers expanded into the thousands. The religious leaders despised them, and Rome would not accept them. As their community grew, so did their hardships.

Their perceived crime varied: for the Jews, it was the sin of being God's chosen people; for Christ, it was claiming to be God; and for the church, as Gentiles, it was believing they could reach heaven through faith in Christ.

Peter, a Jewish man, one of the original disciples of Jesus and a leader in the fledgling church, understood that no matter what he or any of the church scattered throughout the Roman Empire could do, they would be unable to change their standing or quell the unquenchable hatred toward them.

The Apostle knew that the hatred and bitterness toward Jews and Christians were Satanic. Later in this letter, he warned God's people to "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world" (5:8-9).

To encourage his readers, Peter reminded them of their identity in Christ. Even though the world would never accept them, they could take heart because they are "A chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy" (2:9-10).

Despite facing suffering and persecution, they will ultimately stand before Lord Jesus Christ not as victims but as victors. "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death" (Revelation 12:11). Consider how this promise of eventual victory can motivate you today to stay faithful and hopeful during current struggles.
In His Strong Love,
Pastor

John had recently baptized him in the River Jordan. The clock was ticking. As always, time cannot be stopped. It continues, moment by moment, hour by hour, and day by day.

The Savior understood He had a mission. His Father had sent Him to earth to undo the works of Satan. His commission wasn’t a reactive measure to counteract Adam’s failure in the Garden.

Instead, before the world's foundation, God set in motion that God the Son would become man so that He could give His life as a sacrifice, paying the penalty for sin that had separated man from Him and thereby reconciling everyone who placed their faith in Jesus for the forgiveness of sins.

Therefore, the Holy Spirit inspired John Mark to write a gospel account that would focus on the actions of Jesus as He conversed with Israel about the Good News, all the while making His way to Jerusalem, where He would die on a cross. Thus, the words “and, now, and immediately” are used to connect Jesus’s different ministry events.

When Jesus encountered the sick, those possessed by evil spirits, those burdened by life's storms, and His critics who claimed He was working under the power of Satan, He demonstrated complete authority over every aspect of life.

One example is Jesus forgiving a paralytic man of his sins and healing him so he could stand, take up his bed, and walk. His authority over the man’s paralysis demonstrates that He alone has the authority to forgive sins (because He is God).

Understanding Jesus’ authority assures Christians that trusting Him is sufficient to forgive their sins and guarantees eternal life. It also inspires them to seek Christ in all of life's challenges, knowing He is able and willing to help them in their time of need. Nothing is impossible for God.

I’m excited to continue this journey with you through the twenty-seven books of the New Testament, trusting that none of us will remain unchanged as we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Please pray for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the entire Calvary Chapel family.

In His Strong Love,
Pastor

We will gather to exalt Jesus, encourage one another in love, and prepare to share the gospel as we continue our detailed study of 1 Peter (2:1-5).

Peter was a young man when he first met Jesus Christ. His night of fishing had ended with only exhaustion and frustration. Just as he was about to give up and head home to rest, Jesus arrived.

The tired fisherman chuckled softly when Jesus, whose father was a carpenter, suggested he throw his net on the other side of the boat. Wanting to be courteous, he hesitantly followed the instruction.

Much to Peter's amazement, the haul of fish from his net was more than he could haul in by himself. He needed his brother and the other men in the boat to help. He quickly brought the boat to shore, ran to Jesus, fell on his face, and proclaimed himself a sinful man.
That day changed Peter forever. He left his family business and began to follow Jesus. He was an eyewitness to the ministry that shook Israel to its core. Jesus taught him how to become a fisher of men, to find, choose, teach, equip, and send out men who would take the message of the gospel to their world, even at great cost.

As one of the final Apostles who had personally traveled with Jesus, he carried on Jesus's work in his own life. He became a spiritual father, responsible for the care, growth, health, safety, and training of men leading the church across the Roman Empire.

Reflecting on those early years with Jesus, he wrote that a good father starts by acknowledging all that Christ has accomplished for them. They had been redeemed, born again, and assured of an inheritance that would never fade.

He further wrote that, given Christ's example, every man should lead by example for his wife and children, striving to become a mature man. This means demonstrating what it looks like to be a Jesus-loving, spirit-filled man who lives selflessly and sacrificially for God's pleasure and divine purpose.

Currently, there’s a noticeable trend of young men moving away from superficial pursuits of worldly pleasures and turning toward God.

What is needed now are men who, like Peter, have renounced their old selves and deeply desire to read, study, and internalize every Scripture. Their goal is to become vessels through which God can save them, their families, communities, and the world.
Happy Father’s Day,
Pastor

He viewed it as an ongoing mental challenge to reconcile God's love, sovereignty, and providence with His allowance of evil to seem victorious.

He also understood that encouraging their victim mentality wouldn't aid his readers scattered across the Empire. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, he reminded the distressed souls of what God had done for them.

He began by proclaiming that, because of their faith in Christ, they had been born again into a living hope, given new birth, and guaranteed an inheritance in heaven that could never be taken from them.

Secondly, motivated by what God had done for them, he urged them to live despite their struggles, abandon their old ways, and commit to a holy life dedicated to God's pleasure and divine purpose.

Third, Peter highlighted that their hope and duty to live holy lives originate from their redemption through Jesus Christ's precious blood, which saved them from more than Nero's tyranny—specifically, from eternal separation in Hell.

Next, the Apostle shifts his focus from their vertical relationship with God to their horizontal relationship with each other, the family of believers united by faith, hope, and love in Christ.
Peter's reasoning was simple. He needed to change their focus from their overwhelming circumstances of trouble, turmoil, tribulation, and sorrow.

So, he lifted the trajectory by challenging them to look beyond themselves and their problems, recognize that they had been redeemed and born again, and be witnesses to God's endless and unconditional love. And that testimony begins with intentionally loving and serving their fellow believers with the same love they had received.

Today, the church faces ongoing persecution as we approach Christ's return. Satan, aware that his time is limited, is like a roaring lion hunting for victims. However, the church stands victorious! Because of their triumph in Christ, believers are called to love others—fellow believers, the world, and those who oppose the cross—with the same love that God has shown them.

In His strong love,
Pastor

And because of His great love, they could have complete confidence that He was with them through every ordeal they faced.

The Apostle knew how easy it was, especially when having to endure severe suffering at the hands of wicked men, who were tools of retribution from Satan for trusting in the Son of God for the forgiveness of sins, to give in to frustration, anger, and bitterness. To give up on standing up for what is right, put their heads in the sand, and hope the storm would blow over without more damage being done.

Therefore, in light of what God had done for them, Peter reminded them that their lives were not their own. They had been bought at the price of the precious blood of Jesus Christ. Therefore, they should live separate from the world and be set apart unto God, a testimony to everyone, including friends, family, and certainly their enemies, of God’s unconditional, unlimited, and eternal love.

The power of His love, which had changed their lives internally by eradicating all sin and declaring them righteous before God, would ultimately safely bring them to the Father on the Day He returns for His church.
In His strong love,
Pastor

We will continue our journey through the New Testament in the Gospel of Matthew (27:1-66).
Death. The very thought can send shivers down the spine. Always present in the back of the mind, it is thrust to the forefront of our minds and hearts like a thermonuclear warhead when one dies, through the normal seasons of life.

Jesus had come from Heaven, knowing when, why, and how He would die. It cast a lingering shadow over His ministry. He didn’t shy away from it or dread it. He knew what had to be done. And, in His infinite love for His disciples, He would sit them down and explain what was coming. To His credit, He told them only what they could handle.
Nowhere in the four Gospel accounts of Jesus’ life can one find a gruesome, gory account of His death—the why and when are vastly more important than the how. Therefore, whenever Jesus spoke of His death, He would always add that He would rise again, which is something else of the utmost importance for one to know.

The Apostle Paul explained it best when he wrote to the Romans, “He was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised up because of justification” (Romans 4:25). In other words, Jesus’ death is only part of God’s plan. As the spotless Lamb of God, Jesus shed His blood and died on a cross to pay the penalty for our sins.

And when He came out from among the dead to never die again, it was through His resurrection that one is justified before God the Father as if one had never sinned. Paul, in another letter to the Corinthians, writes, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; behold, all things become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

What is hardest for one to reconcile in their mind when presented with Jesus’ death, even when they believe He was raised from the dead, is why He would willingly offer Himself as a sacrifice. To the one who is born again, the thought of what He has done fills the mind and heart with eternal gratitude, much like the blind man who, when questioned about how he received his sight upon encountering Jesus, replied, “One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see” (John 9:25).

It was God’s infinite and unconditional love for sinful man that sent His only begotten Son as a substitute to take their place. On the night Judas would betray Him, Jesus told His disciples, “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” The Apostle Paul then explains when Jesus first began to love His friends. “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

As one goes through the sixty-six verses of chapter twenty-seven, it is good and proper to mourn and grieve over what was done to Jesus. Recognize that He did it for you, even though you or anyone else was not deserving of it. But understand that God’s love and plan for your life doesn’t end with the chapter. There is another chapter in the Gospel of Matthew’s account. Jesus was raised to life!

I’m excited to continue this journey with you through the twenty-seven books of the New Testament, trusting that none of us will remain unchanged as we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He had spent three and a half years with Jesus. Throughout that time, he and all of Jesus’ followers watched as He was pursued, attacked, conspired against, and finally arrested, tried, and crucified.

Every day brought another attempt by Jesus’ enemies to trap Him. They hung on every word He spoke, searching and probing for an opportunity to catch Him in something against their law. To make matters worse, Jesus had begun warning him and the others about what was coming. It was a dark shadow hanging over them. Yet it didn’t change Jesus one iota. He continued His mission, teaching, healing, and delivering the lost sheep of Israel.

Jesus never lost His focus. He had come to fulfill His Father’s perfect will. He observed how He responded to stress, trials, tribulations, persecution, and death. He never lost His cool or temper. He was never flustered or frustrated. He never blamed His enemies or played the victim.

Jesus’ entire life was focused on one thing. Obeying His Father. Nothing else mattered. None of what happened caught Him off guard. Long before the world’s foundation or Satan’s rebellion, the decision to send Jesus had been made.

Now, thirty years after Jesus’ death and resurrection, with Nero hunting Christians, Peter reminded those who had been scattered throughout the Empire that, in light of what God had done for them, they shouldn’t live in fear. We will continue our journey through the New Testament in the Gospel of Matthew (26:36-75).

Jesus sang a hymn. Imagine what that would have sounded like? He had just finished the last Passover and instituted the New Covenant. He led His disciples in song, as He had for the past three and a half years. All of them raised their voices to God, honoring and exalting Him and giving Him the glory He deserved.

Afterward, Jesus led the eleven; Judas had already left, having gone to Caiaphas to complete his treachery by betraying Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. When the Son of God reached the Mount of Olives, He called Peter, James, and John to enter the Garden of Gethsemane to pray.

Jesus knew Judas would soon arrive with the Pharisees, the Temple guard, and a detachment of Roman soldiers to arrest Him. But He went anyway. He had visited the garden many times to meet and commune with His Heavenly Father. A place away from the world’s chaos and growing hatred. A place where He could hear from His Father and prepare His heart and mind for what would soon follow.

The hour spent in the garden was marked by spiritual warfare. The pressure on Him was extreme. At stake was the purpose of Jesus’ coming to earth. He had been sent to give His life as a ransom for many. Through Him, men and women, the good, religious, secular, and deeply depraved could be forgiven of their sins and experience the new birth.

Jesus’ time in prayer set an example for His followers of the importance of having a regular time and place to meet with God, to know His will, and receive strength. A time to be encouraged, equipped, and empowered to face whatever life and Satan will throw at you in an attempt to derail God’s will for your life and ministry.

When Jesus finished praying, He quickly awakened the three He had brought with Him so they could rejoin the others. As Judas approached, he signaled to his new benefactors who to arrest by greeting Him with a kiss. John writes later in his gospel that when they tried to arrest Jesus, they all fell to the ground like dead men when He spoke to them.

When the soldiers regained their bearings, they quickly bound Jesus and led Him away for trial. Throughout the night, Jesus would stand trial six times, three before the Jewish Sanhedrin and three before the Romans. Each trial was illegal and violated numerous Jewish and Roman laws. But that didn’t matter. Jesus had to be dealt with and removed.
Jesus’ arrest, trial, and eventual death had been prophesied by the Old Testament prophets, who foretold that God would provide Israel and the world with a Savior who alone can deliver anyone who comes to Him from their sins and give them a new nature, one set on pleasing God.

His death would occur in the morning. To Caiaphas and his religious apostates, it seemed they had finally rid themselves of this troublemaker. Rome considered the matter closed and another riot avoided. Satan thought he had finally defeated his arch nemesis once and for all. And for the moment, a casual observer would agree, but in three days, everything would change.

In His Strong Love,
Pastor

We will come together to exalt Jesus, build one another up in love, and be equipped to share the gospel as we continue our in-depth study of 1 Peter (1:13).

Peter had seen, heard, and experienced much in the years since he walked with Jesus. The joy of being an eyewitness to the miracles, healings, deliverances, and restoration of people’s lives. There had also been seasons of trials, suffering, persecution, and profound sadness of knowing the struggles of God’s people.

He also understood that during trials, one’s mind can go into hyperdrive. Wanting to figure out why things were happening, what they had done wrong, and what could be done to change things, while fighting the urge to feel alone and the temptation to give in and give up.

For this reason, Peter, inspired by the Holy Spirit, begins his letter by reminding them that they are chosen by God, born again into a living hope, and have been given an inheritance reserved for them in heaven.

And even though God’s promises may not ease the pain of their current trial of being hunted by Nero, they can, if they allow themselves to surrender not only their lives but their entire souls to the Lord, be infused with hope that nothing man or devil may bring will ever overcome it.

Next, Peter wrote to let his readers know that, in light of all that God has promised, the proper response was to follow His divine mandates. Throughout the Bible, this has remained the same. God gives, promises, and provides, and people respond by living for His purposes and good pleasure.

Obeying God’s instructions would do several things for those who are suffering. First, it would alleviate one’s anxieties as they sat around afraid to do anything by becoming active in serving Him wherever and doing whatever He called them to do.
Second, obeying God, especially when one’s suffering brings joy, peace, and the confidence that they are not alone.

Third, it is vitally important for those who think God is angry and therefore punishing them that, by obeying God, they disarm the accuser of the brethren who haunts their thoughts with accusations of hypocrisy and unworthiness for God’s grace.

Fourth, when Christ returns for His church, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, they will be removed from every trial, persecution, and everything that has brought them sadness and suffering, forever, and they will see that their faith in Christ was right and worth it.
Nero has been dead for more than a thousand years, yet the spirit that possessed him and plagued the followers of Jesus Christ is still alive today, persecuting God’s people.
The good news for those going through a trial is found in Peter’s encouragement, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen” (5:8-11).

In His strong love,
Pastor

Instead, He had been chosen, called, commanded, and commissioned by God to intercede for all the leaders in wicked Ephesus, as well as for Rome’s senators, soldiers, magistrates, and Nero, one of the most wicked men to sit on Caesar's throne. Faithfulness to this mission was essential.

There was no time for Timothy to give in to the pressure or to seek to minister somewhere easier than where he was. He had to stay the course. Finish the assignment. Men’s lives were at stake. Souls hung in the balance between heaven and hell. Though most men try to ignore the nagging reality of death, it doesn’t change the cold, brutal reality of mortality.

Timothy was not alone. Empowered by God’s grace, he found the strength to face the trial, peace within his soul, and hope for victory through Jesus Christ. He needed to remain focused and nurture his spiritual, physical, and emotional well-being. His faith was crucial—constant trust in Jesus and the Holy Spirit's comfort would guide him through the dangerous, spiritually dark city that had been plunged into darkness for centuries.

I'm eager to study this passage with you. Please include praying for our President, nation, community, and church in your daily prayer routine.

In His Strong Love,
Pastor

We will continue our journey through the New Testament in the Gospel of Matthew (22:1-46).

The previous chapter concluded with Jesus illustrating Israel’s opposition, especially that of the Pharisees, through two parables. The chief priests and Pharisees attempted to seize and arrest Him because they realized He was speaking about them. At the last moment, they decided not to because the crowd of witnesses believed He was a prophet.

The conflict intensified when Jesus told a third parable about a wedding invitation. In His time, a wedding invitation included a garment for the invitee. This garment helped identify those who had accepted the invitation and those who tried to sneak in without one. It made it difficult for them to hide, and once caught, they could be quickly removed.

Everyone saw that Jesus was criticizing the religious leaders for relying on themselves, looking down on those they deemed unworthy, and refusing to believe that He fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies about Israel’s Messiah.

Afterward, the religiously astute Pharisees, the politically focused Herodians, and the materialistic Sadducees each took turns trying to trip up Jesus and get Him to say or do something that would weaken His hold on the hearts and minds of the multitude.
Each group understood that Jesus was more than a charismatic personality with incredible oratory skills. Deep down, they were deeply afraid, even as they continually lied to themselves, because they knew that Jesus of Nazareth was more than a man and not of this earth. So He had to be destroyed before they lost their positions of power and influence.

Jesus knew His adversaries’ blackened hearts. He understood what they were trying to do to Him. Yet He never sought revenge or retribution. He knew what had to be done and why. His love for His enemies far outweighed the unbridled hatred they held for Him.
Therefore, He did not attack them directly. Instead, He aimed to expose their hypocritical hearts so they might abandon their self-reliance, which prevented them from entering the kingdom of God. He prompted their thinking by asking which commandment they considered the greatest, and, to make it more challenging, He asked them to explain how David, revered by all Israel as a hero, could call Him both his Son and his Lord.

They were confused and unsure how to react. Their attempts to discredit Him failed completely. Without frustration or effort, He skillfully reversed the situation, making them appear foolish. They hurriedly left the Temple and Jesus behind, determined not to be caught in His trap again.

Jesus had ignited a fire, a blaze that would purify all who came to Him by faith, believing He alone was the way to Heaven. But those who reject Him will be consumed by His Father's holy, righteous, and just wrath.

That flame continues to burn brightly today, revealing men’s hearts. Some will humbly submit to Him, asking for forgiveness, while others stubbornly walk away, mocking the idea of giving an account to an unseen God for their actions, and unknowingly falling into Satan’s trap.

I’m excited to continue this journey with you through the twenty-seven books of the New Testament, trusting that none of us will remain unchanged as we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Please pray for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the entire Calvary Chapel family.
In His Strong Love,
Pastor

Their lives had been upended when Caesar Nero, in a drunken rage, almost burned Rome to the ground. When the dust settled and questions were asked, Nero decided to blame the one group everyone hated, the church of Jesus Christ.

The Apostle knew the cost, the pain, the constant criticism and persecution the church had to endure, sometimes while they gritted their teeth, unwilling to say anything that would embarrass Christ, the church, and themselves.

Yet even though many Christians understood what was happening and why, they didn’t say anything that could cause the crowd to cast dispersions on the name of Christ because of their actions. They were literally between a rock and a hard place. And to make matters worse, there were persecutions, imprisonments, and an increasing number of Christians being murdered by being thrown into the gladiator arena.

Therefore, inspired by the Holy Spirit, Peter encouraged the church by reminding them of their future inheritance, guaranteed by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He shifted their focus from persecution to what awaited them in heaven: a city, a mansion, and a glorified body.

Next, he told them that the suffering they were experiencing would last only a little while, that God would refine their faith, and that they would emerge stronger than before. All of it would be for His glory and their ultimate good.

It is a blessing to understand that all trials, troubles, persecution, and suffering that can lead to one’s demise are under the watchful eye of the Father of all comfort, who brings His people through the fire purer and stronger, ready to continue fighting the good fight of faith.

In His strong love, Pastor

The streets were filled with people holding palm branches and rejoicing in His arrival. He was aware of how unpredictable their hearts could be. He knew their attitude would change in just a few days. Still, He came to those, regardless of whether they rejected or accepted His message, preparing the way for everyone to be reconciled with God.

After His arrival, He entered the Temple to cleanse it of those who had turned it into a marketplace that exploited worshippers. Their greed had caused the worshippers to fear going, knowing they were being ripped off. What should have been an opportunity for forgiveness and joyful communion with God had become a den of thieves.

When Jesus was asked about His authority to cleanse the temple, He turned the question back on them by asking where John the Baptist’s authority came from. Once again, Jesus’ opponents were confused. Not wanting to look more foolish than they already did, they quickly dismissed His question. Jesus left them stunned and then went to the home of His friends, Lazarus, Mary, and Martha.

The next morning, on His way back into the city, He passed by a fig tree that should have had fruit on it but did not. Jesus cursed it and continued on His way. The disciples were amazed when they saw the tree wither away right before their eyes. Later, Jesus used the moment as a lesson about Israel's future if they didn’t repent and turn toward God.
The chapter concludes with Jesus’ two parables, and the chief priests and Pharisees attempt to seize Him to arrest Him because they realize He is talking about them. At the last moment, they decide not to because the crowd of witnesses believed He was a prophet.

The die had been cast, and soon Jesus would be hung on a cross. All of it, including the events that had transpired, was prophesied in the Old Testament, which shows that Jesus of Nazareth was more than just a prophet. He was the Son of the living God and the One anointed to be the Savior of all mankind.

I’m excited to continue this journey with you through the twenty-seven books of the New Testament, trusting that none of us will remain the same as we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This is the day we celebrate our God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who has risen from the dead. Paul the Apostle said, “Jesus was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification” (Romans 4:25).
Early in the morning, on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene, whom Jesus had cast out seven demons, visited the tomb where He was buried. Much to her astonishment, the stone had been removed, and the grave was empty.

She quickly ran to find Peter and John to tell them what she had seen. Both men ran as fast as they could, and when they arrived, Peter stooped down first to look at the neatly lying linen cloths that had been used to wrap Jesus’ body.

John followed Peter, and when he saw the linen cloths and the handkerchief folded together around Jesus’ head, he believed. He remembered Jesus's words about His resurrection, which would undoubtedly occur after His death.

At the time, none of the disciples heard this promise due to the grief that filled their minds regarding the arrest, suffering, and crucifixion of their Teacher. But now John saw clearly that Jesus had kept His word that on the third day, He would rise out from among the dead, never to die again.

Today, two thousand years later, we celebrate the day that changed the world forever. We can confidently proclaim that because He lives, we have been declared righteous before God the Father. Because He lives, we never have to fear death. Because He lives, we are assured that He is for us, not against us. Because He lives, we know we will be with Him when this life ends.

When we gather in the main sanctuary after breakfast (8:00-9:30), we will focus on Apostle Peter's eyewitness account of that morning’s events and his letter that followed, when the entire religious and secular world hurried to respond to the news that Jesus Christ had risen from the dead. What happened changed the world forever.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ was and continues to be a message for all the world that whosoever believes in Him and what He accomplished on the cross will experience a transformation from the inside out and the guarantee that once their time on earth is complete, they will spend eternity with Jesus and all the saints of all the ages. For the followers of Jesus, the resurrection is a message of hope amid a Christ-rejecting, sin-loving, selfish world.

Invite your family and friends to come and celebrate. A recent statistic stated that 82% of people invited to an Easter service would attend. That is a fantastic fact. You have an incredible opportunity to witness someone’s life changed for eternity. Breakfast is 8:00-9:30 am, and worship begins at 10:00 am.
BECAUSE HE LIVES,
Pastor

This was the purpose of His birth. Every time He taught, healed the blind, restored hearing to the deaf, or raised the dead, it all pointed to this moment. The moment when He would give His life for mankind's salvation.

Before Jesus went to the cross, He wanted to spend one last Passover with His disciples. During the meal, He shared His heart with those who had been with Him. John the Beloved recorded those words for us in John 13-17. It began with Jesus washing His disciples’ feet and ended with His priestly prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Every word He spoke was filled with passion. Words that conveyed the purpose of His death and the promise of His resurrection. He wanted to share words with His disciples and with us, who belong to His church. Words that would support His disciples through the darkest moments of their lives. Words that would strengthen them with the confidence of the promise of eternal life.

We will celebrate that night in the upper room. The service begins with Jesus's words inviting His disciples to join Him for the Passover. Then, the men of Calvary Chapel will read Jesus’ words recorded in John 13-17. Between each section, the worship team will lead us in song.
After the last words Jesus spoke in John 17, we will observe His death and resurrection with communion. You will have the opportunity to thank aloud for the body and blood of Jesus. This will be a beautiful moment as we listen to one another and give thanks to Jesus for what He has done.

The service's live stream (Facebook, YouTube: Calvary Inverness, and website: calvaryinv.com is available for those who cannot attend. We will come together to exalt Jesus, build each other up in love, and be equipped to share the gospel as we continue a three-week in-depth study of Psalm 22:22-31.

Darkness. The only light came through the cracks in the cave’s ceiling. To add to David’s misery, the cave was cold and damp. Though he was thankful for the hiding place from the relentless pursuit of his father-in-law, Saul, the king of Israel.

Forsaken. David couldn’t understand why God had turned His back on him. Nothing made sense. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't reconcile recent events. He was the commander of Israel’s army. He had joined the royal family, which gave him influence. Yet, despite everything he had, his most cherished role was as a worship leader. He was a skilled musician who played worship music for Saul, who was tormented by evil spirits. But all of it was gone in an instant. One moment, life was good, and the next, he was in hiding.
Pain. His mind and emotions were frayed. His bones ached. His head throbbed. One moment, he was freezing, and the next, his insides felt like an inferno. He couldn’t eat or drink. Sleep eluded him. And when he did sleep, it was brief or filled with dreams of running, hiding, and struggling. It was a nightmare that never ended.

Shamed. David’s family, friends, and countrymen all abandoned him. They believed whatever happened to him was his fault. Betrayed by many he thought could be trusted. His memories haunted him as he reflected on all he had enjoyed when he was honored and respected.

Silence. It was deafening. Even though he was in a cave, he wasn’t alone. Over four hundred of his men approached the cave where he was hiding, bringing their wives and children with them. David’s parents arrived along with many family members. Yet, amidst all the noise of conversations, laughter, and arguments among his family, the one David desperately wanted to hear from was nowhere to be found.

Joy. Just when David felt like nothing would change, a light broke through, illuminating and infusing his heart with inexpressible joy. God had answered his cries. He gave him the absolute certainty that his suffering was not being ignored, nor would he die in a cave alone and frightened. His circumstances hadn’t changed. His pain remained. Yet, the difference was that David knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that God was with him. His strength returned. He knew how or when, but he knew he was going to make it.

Praise. The moment David received a message from God, he declared that he would testify to everyone he knew about God’s greatness, goodness, kindness, and power. He planned to do this through song. He would take everything he had compiled while on the run and give it to the Levites, who God had anointed to lead Israel in worship.

Prophecy. David documented his cave experience in a journal. He was a talented songwriter and musician. He was also a prophet, anointed by God. His psalm speaks of his greatest descendant, Jesus of Nazareth, and details what He experienced and endured on the cross. It also vividly describes Christ’s victory on the cross and His millennial reign.
Conclusion: What started as a lament and dirge has transformed into praise for God, giving us a beautiful prayer, a song of praise, and a prophecy of our Great God and Savior, Jesus, our faithful high priest and soon-coming King.

My prayer is that, as our church family reads this psalm, we will notice how David stayed firm in his trust in God, no matter what he faced, also how his suffering foreshadowed what Jesus would go through, so that we, who were sinners in need of a Savior, could be forgiven and become a new creation.
In His strong love, Pastor

Each step felt heavier as Jesus approached Jerusalem. He knew what awaited Him—long before the foundation of the world was set in motion. He wasn’t afraid, but determined to finish what He had come to earth to accomplish.

His heart was heavy. The cross represented separation from the Father. There had never been a moment in all of eternity when they hadn’t been in constant communion. Yet, there was no other way. Jesus understood that even though the people He came for had rejected Him, He would still pave the way for their salvation.

Jesus understood, even with the heaviness in His heart, that He still had much to do before that moment—healings, miracles, preaching, teaching, and instructing His disciples. There was no time to waste. His time was running out.

The stakes were at an all-time high. The crowd, although still large, was beginning to dwindle. His enemies were becoming more anxious and, as a result, bolder and more aggressive because they feared His influence over those they regarded as His dedicated followers. Therefore, His enemies kept trying to trap Him in saying or doing something that would discredit Him.

Throughout everything, Jesus calmly and resolutely continued to serve both His people and His enemies. Peter remembered how, after Jesus’ resurrection, He responded to those who hated Him. “When He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously.”
Christ’s life, ministry, crucifixion, death, and resurrection have set an example for all His followers from that day until now, demonstrating that when suffering or persecution occurs, we should trust in Him, who protects, guides, and strengthens us through every trial and tribulation.

I’m excited to continue this journey with you through the twenty-seven books of the New Testament, trusting that none of us will remain the same as we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We will come together to exalt Jesus, build each other up in love, and be equipped to share the gospel as we continue a three-week in-depth study of Psalm 22:12-21.

Pain. Agony. Anguish of the soul. David frantically tried to understand why God had forsaken him to his enemies, and he also faced unbearable pain. Every joint ached, and his clothes hung from his emaciated body due to hunger and thirst.

Sitting in a cave, penning the words before us, his journaling, which would become a song for Israel and the early church to sing when they gathered to worship God. His mind raced. His hand was cramping with searing pain from dehydration, making it difficult to keep up.

Yet, there was something comforting to his troubled soul in putting his thoughts into writing. He sensed God’s presence, which had been with him when he defended his flock against a lion and, at another time, a bear. But the moment David remembered most was when he, on behalf of Israel, ran to battle the giant from Gath, Goliath.

Now, even though he felt God's presence, it was only a brief moment. His memories of God’s past faithfulness had faded with each passing day. Hiding in a cave from his father-in-law, King Saul, all he could remember was those he once led into battle for. God’s glory, and Israel had become his enemies.

No matter how he tried to shake off the increasingly toxic thoughts, he was unsuccessful. Why did his friends turn on him? Why was Saul so full of rage against him? Why did his wife not stay at his side? On and on the thoughts raced through his mind like a hot knife through butter.
David believed that due to his present condition, he lay at death’s door. He had a grasp of the resurrection of the righteous dead and of spending eternity with God, but he was not himself. It was difficult for him to discern what was true and what was a lie.

Yet, he continued to compose his song. Even through the searing pain and throbbing of his head, he knew he had a mission. This, David, understood. He was a soldier. He followed orders. The Holy Spirit, even though David didn’t recognize His presence, was guiding his hand and inspiring his heart to write a song that would be passed down through the generations to the church of today.

A song to be sung, memorized, and shared with others, this Psalm acts as a vivid reminder that God is especially present with those who are suffering.

David rehearsed the words he had in his mind and wrote them down without realizing that the early church, facing many trials and hardships, would find great comfort in them. He composed this worship song as a prophecy, containing various intricate details that would be fulfilled over a thousand years later through the life, ministry, trials, scourging, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. He wrote about the emotions, despair, and desperate cries for help during Jesus of Nazareth's crucifixion. Suffering, which would lead to the redemption of all who trust in Him from the tyranny of sin and death.

My prayer is that, as our church family reads this psalm, we will observe how David remained steadfast in his trust in God, regardless of what he faced. Also, how his suffering foreshadowed what Jesus would endure, so that we, who were sinners in need of a Savior, could be forgiven and become a new creation.

In His strong love, Pastor

When they arrived, Moses and Elijah appeared with Jesus, and the three disciples heard them discussing Jesus’ upcoming death.

In a sudden moment, filled with a mix of fear and awe, Peter blurted out that if Jesus wished, they could build a tabernacle for each of them. Later, when recounting the experience to Mark, Peter explained he said this because he didn’t know what else to say.
Everything Peter, James, and John saw and heard would stay with them forever. Their hearts pounded, adrenaline surged, and their minds raced. What should they do next? Who should they tell? These questions were answered when Jesus commanded them, saying, “Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead” (17:9).

That mountaintop experience and the euphoria of the three quickly evaporated when coming down the mountain; they were met by an angry mob, a frustrated father, and his son, who was demon-possessed. It was a grim reminder that those quiet times alone with the Lord will always be met with spiritual resistance.

Jesus delivered the boy from his demonic bondage, ministered to the distraught father, and taught His disciples a valuable lesson that spiritual warfare is real. They should never go into a fight unprepared, and remember that after every spiritual victory comes spiritual warfare.

In the days that followed, there were numerous lessons Jesus’ men had to learn—everything from the importance of childlike faith to forgiving those who had wronged them.
The men learned that when they put their complete trust in Jesus, they would always be willing to show mercy to those who were undeserving, even to the point of releasing them from their debt.

As the disciples pondered what Jesus had said, they saw the Pharisees approach Him once again to test Him. This time, they wanted Jesus to give His opinion on which Rabbi they should follow regarding marriage and divorce. Jesus quickly and clearly provided the Pharisees with a detailed explanation of biblical principles when He told them that marriage didn’t originate during Moses’ time.

Marriage was established by God and was defined and explained to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Therefore, they weren’t going back far enough in biblical history in attempting to understand marriage.

Jesus’ schooling with the Pharisees provides a blueprint for His followers from that day until now. It also highlights why today’s church should make studying the Bible its top priority. With countless opinions on life and eternity, only God's Word remains the objective source of truth.

I’m excited to continue this journey with you through the twenty-seven books of the New Testament, trusting that none of us will remain the same as we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Please pray for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the entire Calvary Chapel family.
In His Strong Love,
Pastor

We will come together to exalt Jesus, build each other up in love, and be equipped to share the gospel as we begin a three-week in-depth study of Psalm 22.

Bewildered and confused, his mind raced as he tried to understand what had gone wrong. Everything he relied on no longer made sense. David, who had been constantly trying to stay one step ahead of Saul, had just learned that men from his hometown had betrayed him.

Now, even though he escaped Saul, who had been called back to deal with a Philistine invasion, he couldn’t understand why God had turned His back on him. As his heart rate returned to normal, his mind kept getting bombarded with one thought after another about what had gone wrong.

To make matters worse, those who were supposed to be his friends not only betrayed him but also insulted him, blaming him for his situation. David, who had been allowed to lead Israel’s army, marry the king’s daughter, and earn everyone’s admiration, destroyed all of it through his rebellion.

As David sat alone with his thoughts, he wrote this Psalm, expressing his raw emotions about being forsaken and abandoned by the One who had chosen him to be the next king of Israel. Was it still part of the plan? When would he become king? And, did he sabotage all God had planned by actions he’d taken? At the end of the day, he had more questions than answers.

David wasn’t just journaling his emotions. He has been called the “Sweet Psalmist of Israel, Anointed of God, and a prophet.” So, like many of his Psalms, they not only describe what he was feeling, thinking, and experiencing but also contain prophecies that were fulfilled in his most famous descendant, Jesus Christ.

My prayer is that, as our church family reads this psalm, we will observe how David remained steadfast in his trust in God, regardless of what he faced, also, how his suffering foreshadowed what Jesus would endure, so that we, who were sinners in need of a Savior, could be forgiven and become a new creation.
In His strong love, Pastor

Celebrations have broken out in Tehran, Tel Aviv, New York City, and across the Iranian diaspora.

In the past few weeks, the Ayatollah has ordered his army to suppress the uprising among the people. This was the third time He had been charged (12:24), and unlike the other two (9:34; 10:25), He responded.

The Pharisees, who had consistently attempted to badger, stumble, provoke, and stop the Son of God, found themselves in a predicament that would further enrage them. The reason? It wasn’t from Jesus striking out in uncontrollable anger. Instead, in His typical manner of gentleness and kindness, He showed the impracticability of their line of thinking.

He went through a series of questions that, if they had been willing to consider and answer, would have opened their eyes to the reality that He was the One who fulfilled a promise that God had made to King David (2 Samuel 7:12-14).

By doing so, He revealed the darkness of their hearts and pulled back the curtain for all to see how they had been leading the nation, whom God had called them to shepherd, in a direction that would lead them to their eternal demise. Jesus didn’t do this to humiliate them, but in an attempt to save them.

Therefore, Jesus, who didn’t want any of them to perish (2 Peter 3:9), warned that if they continued in their unbelief and accusation that He was in league with Satan, they would cross a line that they would not be able to return (12:31-32).

This is true for anyone presented with the claims of Jesus Christ. When irrefutable evidence is presented regarding His person and purpose, one must decide whether to believe or not, for there is no such thing as not making a decision. Because Jesus said, “He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad” (12:30).

Next, Jesus returned to Peter’s house to minister to those who had come to hear Him. As He was teaching, He was told His mother and brothers were waiting to see Him. Also, those from Nazareth had come, thinking He was out of His mind.

His response was beyond anything anyone had said before. Mark wrote, “He answered and said to the one who told Him, “Who is My mother and who are My brothers?” And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, ‘Here are My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother” (Mt. 12:48-50).

Afterward, He left the house and began speaking to the vast multitudes following Him in parables. So, what is a parable?

A parable is a story from everyday life that points to or illustrates a spiritual truth. Their purpose? They are told to provide understanding to those who seek a relationship with Jesus and, at the same time, to hide the truth from those who have hardened their hearts.

The first parable is about a sower, seed, and the soil. The sower is unnamed, but later in the chapter, in another parable, Jesus told them He was the sower (13:37). The seed is the inerrant, infallible, imitable, inspired word of God. The four soils represent the condition of people’s hearts.

Jesus told the listeners that those who hear the gospel are those whose hearts are either hardened, shallow, crowded, or receptive. And the condition of one’s heart determines whether or not you ever come into the kingdom of God.

In the following three parables (13:24-33), Jesus described the hostile and deteriorating conditions that His followers will endure as they proclaim the gospel, first to their families and then everywhere He sends them.

When the disciples followed Jesus back into the house where He was residing, they asked Him the meaning of the parable of the wheat and tares (13:24-30). He gladly sat with them and patiently stated their meaning (13:36-43).

Jesus’ motive in explaining the parables to His followers was multi-faceted. First, parables are easy to remember, as they are simple stories from everyday life with a single point.

Second, parables can bridge the Old and New Testaments, as they are prophesied in the Old and fulfilled in Jesus’ ministry in the New.

Third, they are a clarion call to His followers to be

alert and aware of Satan’s tactics to resist the work of the Holy Spirit in their lives.

Fourth, parables equip His followers to share and defend the gospel and conduct the good fight of faith in their war against the flesh, world, and satan.

Pastor
